You can pay your sewer bill at the Sewer Department office, the Water Department office, the Tax Collector's office and Bemis Drug. You may also mail your payment to P.O. Box 2198 Abington, MA 02351
How often should I expect a sewer bill?
Sewer bills are sent out quarterly (every 3 months) and come on the same form as your water bill.
Can I write a check for both my water and sewer charges combined?
No, the water and sewer payments must be written on seperate checks, but can be mailed together in one envelope.
What do I do if my house has a 'back-up'?
You should first call the Sewer Department office at 781-982-2122. If there is no one available to assist you, you should then call the Abington Police Department at 781-878-3232 and they will contact the proper authorities.

Animal Control:
Does the town take unwanted pets or put animals to sleep for private owners?

Does the Animal Control Officer department dispose of dead animals?
Yes, the department will remove dead animal carcasses from public ways only, not private ways or private property. Please call 781-878-3697.
What about problem wildlife?
The ACO can destroy wildlife only under certain specific conditions,the wildlife animal must be sick, on the ground, and in the open on public property. Local Animal Control Officers/police officers have no powers which enable them to handle problem wildlife.The state fish and wildlife division has licensed agents for this purpose. They do charge for their services. Please consult your telephone directory to contact a licensed nuisance wildlife agent.
What about coyotes?
Coyotes have been in this area for several years.Only the Department of Fish and Game, a state agency, can respond to problem coyote complaints. Towns can only take action against coyotes that are caught in the act of attacking persons or pets. Towns cannot take preemptive action against coyotes. How do I get a smoke detector inspection for the sale of my house?
Call 781-982-2114 and speak with the Deputy Chief or Shift Officer to set up an appointment, they will explain the requirements and answer any questions you might have. Payment must be cash or bank check, no personal checks accepted. A member of the Fire Department will come out and test your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and issue a Certificate of Compliance to take to your passing. How do I get an Outside Burning Permit?
Outside Burning is from January 15th until May 1st each year. Only burning of brush is allowed, no leaves. A written permit must be obtained at Fire Headquarters at 1040 Bedford St. Burning rules will be explained at that time. Outside burning is illegal without a permit anytime of the year and could lead to fines.

Town Clerk:
How do I get a marriage license (file a marriage intention)?
The fee for a marriage intention is $40.00 in Abington. The office does marriage intentions from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM. The paperwork does take a few minutes. Couples must appear together and be eighteen or over. The intention is good for sixty days, and there is a three day waiting period. The three day period may be waived by district court (a fee is involved). So if one applies on a Monday or a Tuesday, they may pick up their certificate on Friday, persons applying Wednesday-Friday may pick up their certificates on the following Monday. Identification is not required because you swear an oath, under the pains and penalties of perjury, that you are telling the truth. It is important to remember where you file your intentions, as it is the only place other than Boston’s Vital Records, that you will be able to get copies of the marriage certificate in the future.
How do I get a copy of a death certificate?
Death certificates are available in the town of the death and the town of residence at the time of death. The fee is $10. You may either come to Town Hall or request it by mail by sending a note stating the name and death date of the record you are requesting, a self addressed stamped envelope and a check payable to the Town of Abington. Anyone coming to Town Hall can request the clerk to prepare it ahead by calling the Town Clerk’s Office at 781-982-2112.
How do I get a dog license?
The fee to license a dog is $10.00. The license period is January 1, - December 31. A current rabies vaccination certificate showing the date of expiration of the vaccination is required. Dog licensing may be done by mail by sending the required rabies certificate, a self addressed stamped envelope and a check payable to the Town of Abington. On June 1, 2009 the Abington Town Clerk’s office will begin charging late fees on dog licenses, per Chapter 11, section 6 of the Abington Town Bylaws. Owners will be charged $10.00 for any dog that has not been licensed since December 2008. Owners of dogs that have not been licensed since 2007 will be assessed a late fee of $25.00. Mail in licensing will be available only to those who enclose self-addressed stamped envelopes and a copy of current rabies vaccination. Exceptions to the late fee will be residents who moved into Abington within the last three months and new puppies who are less than six months old.
